Intended Uses: For the quantitative detection of Human Ficolin-2 (FCN2) concentration in serum, plasma and other biological fluids.
Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate FCN2 in Human serum, plasma. An antibody specific for FCN2 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any FCN2 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for FCN2 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of FCN2 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

The product of this gene belongs to the ficolin family of proteins. This family is characterized by the presence of a leader peptide, a short N-terminal segment, followed by a collagen-like region, and a C-terminal fibrinogen-like domain. This gene is predominantly expressed in the liver, and has been shown to have carbohydrate binding and opsonic activities. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
