Intended Uses: The kit is a sandwich enzyme immunoassay for in vitro quantitative measurement of EGFL6 in human serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological fluids.

Principle of the Assay: The microplate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to EGFL6. Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microplate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody specific to EGFL6. Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. After TMB substrate solution is added, only those wells that contain EGFL6, biotin-conjugated antibody and enzyme-conjugated Avidin will exhibit a change in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450nm +/- 10nm. The concentration of EGFL6 in the samples is then determined by comparing the O.D. of the samples to the standard curve.

This gene encodes a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) repeat superfamily. Members of this superfamily are characterized by the presence of EGF-like repeats and are often involved in the regulation of cell cycle, proliferation, and developmental processes. The gene product contains a signal peptide, suggesting that it is secreted; an EGF repeat region consisting of 4 complete EGF-like repeats and 1 partial EGF-like repeat, 3 of which have a calcium-binding consensus sequence; an arg-gly-asp integrin association motif; and a MAM domain, which is believed to have an adhesive function.
