Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of human Biglycan (also known as BGN) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, cell lysates, tissue homogenates.
Principles of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with human BGN antibody. BGN present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated human BGN Antibody is added and binds to BGN in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated BGNantibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of human BGN. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

This gene encodes a member of the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family of proteins. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature protein, which plays a role in bone growth, muscle development and regeneration, and collagen fibril assembly in multiple tissues. This protein may also regulate inflammation and innate immunity. Additionally, the encoded protein may contribute to atherosclerosis and aortic valve stenosis in human patients.
