Intended Uses: The kit is a sandwich enzyme immunoassay for in vitro quantitative measurement of ALB in human serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids.

Principle of the Assay: The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to ALB. Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody preparation specific to ALB. Next, Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. After TMB substrate solution is added, only those wells that contain ALB, biotin-conjugated antibody and enzyme-conjugated Avidin will exhibit a change in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450nm +/- 10nm. The concentration of ALB in the samples is then determined by comparing the O.D. of the samples to the standard curve.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes the most abundant protein in human blood. This protein functions in the regulation of blood plasma colloid osmotic pressure and acts as a carrier protein for a wide range of endogenous molecules including hormones, fatty acids, and metabolites, as well as exogenous drugs. Additionally, this protein exhibits an esterase-like activity with broad substrate specificity. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate the mature protein.
