Intended Uses: For the quantitative detection of Human Alanine aminotransferase 2 (GPT2) concentration in serum, plasma and other biological fluids.

Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate GPT2 in Human serum, plasma. An antibody specific for GPT2 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any GPT2 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for GPT2 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of GPT2 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a mitochondrial alanine transaminase, a pyridoxal enzyme that catalyzes the reversible transamination between alanine and 2-oxoglutarate to generate pyruvate and glutamate. Alanine transaminases play roles in gluconeogenesis and amino acid metabolism in many tissues including skeletal muscle, kidney, and liver. Activating transcription factor 4 upregulates this gene under metabolic stress conditions in hepatocyte cell lines. A loss of function mutation in this gene has been associated with developmental encephalopathy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2015]
