Principle of the assay: RPS3A ELISA kit applies the competitive enzyme immunoassay technique utilizing a monoclonal anti-RPS3A antibody and an RPS3A-HRP conjugate. The assay sample and buffer are incubated together with RPS3A-HRP conjugate in pre-coated plate for one hour. After the incubation period, the wells are decanted and washed five times. The wells are then incubated with a substrate for HRP enzyme. The product of the enzyme-substrate reaction forms a blue colored complex. Finally, a stop solution is added to stop the reaction, which will then turn the solution yellow. The intensity of color is measured spectrophotometrically at 450nm in a microplate reader. The intensity of the color is inversely proportional to the RPS3A concentration since RPS3A from samples and RPS3A-HRP conjugate compete for the anti-RPS3A antibody binding site. Since the number of sites is limited, as more sites are occupied by RPS3A from the sample, fewer sites are left to bind RPS3A-HRP conjugate. A standard curve is plotted relating the intensity of the color (O.D.) to the concentration of standards. The RPS3A concentration in each sample is interpolated from this standard curve.

Together these subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 structurally distinct proteins. This gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 40S subunit. The protein belongs to the S3AE family of ribosomal proteins. It is located in the cytoplasm. Disruption of the gene encoding rat ribosomal protein S3a, also named v-fos transformation effector protein, in v-fos-transformed rat cells results in reversion of the transformed phenotype. This gene is co-transcribed with the U73A and U73B small nucleolar RNA genes, which are located in its fourth and third introns, respectively. As is typical for genes encoding ribosomal proteins, there are multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene dispersed through the genome.
