Biological Significance
FGF16 is a heparin binding growth factor that is a member of the FGF family. Proteins of this family play a central role during prenatal development and postnatal growth and regeneration of a variety of tissues, by promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. FGF16 signals through FGFR 2c and 3c. FGF16 plays a role in the development of the central nervous system.
Bioactivity
The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake by BaF3 cells expressing FGF-receptors is approximately 0.5 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of approximately 2 x 10^6 units/mg.
Endotoxin Levels
Endotoxin level is less than 0.1 ng per ug (1 EU/ug).
Expression System
E Coli
Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C until reconstitution. Following reconstitution aliquot and freeze at -20 degree C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of a family of proteins that are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. This gene is expressed in cardiac cells and is required for proper heart development. Mutation in this gene was also observed in individuals with metacarpal 4-5 fusion. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2014]

Uniprot Description

FGF16: Plays an important role in the regulation of embryonic development, cell proliferation and cell differentiation, and is required for normal cardiomyocyte proliferation and heart development. Belongs to the heparin-binding growth factors family.

Product Notes

The FGF16 fgf16 (Catalog #AAA536556) is an Active Protein produced from Human and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's FGF16 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, User optimized. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the FGF16 fgf16 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Region of FGF16 protein correspond ing to amino acids MAEVGGVFAS LDWDLHGFSS SLGNVPLADS PGFLNERLGQ IEGKLQRGSP TDFAHLKGIL RRRQLYCRTG FHLEIFPNGT VHGTRHDHSR FGILEFISLA VGLISIRGVD SGLYLGMNER GELYGSKKLT RECVFREQFE ENWYNTYAST LYKHSDSERQ YYVALNKDGS PREGYRTKRH QKFTHFLPRP VDPSKLPSMS RDLFHYR. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "FGF16, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
