Recombinant human Mortalin (47-end) protein was expressed in Sf9 insect cells using an N-terminal GST tag.

Scientific Background: Mortalin is a mitochondrial chaperone and a member of the heat shock protein 70 family that is constitutively expressed in cells. Mortalin plays a central role in mitochondrial biogenesis through its capacity to direct the import of nuclear-encoded proteins into the mitochondria. Mortalin plays a role in the control of cell proliferation and elevated levels of mortalin have correlated with malignant transformation and poor cancer prognosis. Mortalin can support cancer cell resistance to complement-dependent cytotoxicity (1). Mortalin expression was decreased in the mitochondrial fraction of neurons from the substantia nigra of Parkinson disease patients (2).

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the heat shock protein 70 gene family. The encoded protein is primarily localized to the mitochondria but is also found in the endoplasmic reticulum, plasma membrane and cytoplasmic vesicles. This protein is a heat-shock cognate protein. This protein plays a role in cell proliferation, stress response and maintenance of the mitochondria. A pseudogene of this gene is found on chromosome 2.[provided by RefSeq, May 2010]

Uniprot Description

Function: Implicated in the control of cell proliferation and cellular aging. May also act as a chaperone.

Subunit structure: Interacts with FXN. Interacts with HSCB. Component of the MINOS/MitOS complex, that includes IMMT, HSPA9 and CHCHD3 and associates with mitochondrial outer membrane proteins SAMM50, MTX1 and MTX2. Interacts with DNLZ, the interaction is required to prevent self-aggregation. Ref.13 Ref.15 Ref.18 Ref.20

Subcellular location: Mitochondrion. Nucleus › nucleolus Ref.19.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the heat shock protein 70 family.

Product Notes

The HSPA9 hspa9 (Catalog #AAA515177) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Sf9 insect cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The tag for this protein is GST tag!!Expression System||Sf9 insect cells using baculovirus!!Source Note||Recombinant human Mortalin (47-end) protein was expressed in Sf9 insect cells. AAA Biotech's Mortalin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the HSPA9 hspa9 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Mortalin, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
