Intended Uses: For the determination of C-Reactive Protem by enzyme immunoassay in human serum.

Principle of the Assay: The principle of the following enzyme immunoassay test follows a typical two-step capture or 'sandwich' type assay. The assay makes use of two highly specific monoclonal antibodies: A monoclonal antibody specific for CRP is immobilized onto the microwell plate and another monoclonal antibody specific for a different region of CRP is conjugated to horse radish peroxidase (HRP). CRP from the sample and calibrators are allowed to bind to the plate, washed, and subsequently incubated with the HRP conjugate. After a second washing step, the enzyme substrate is added. The enzymatic reaction is tenninated by addition of the stopping solution. The absorbance is measured on a microtiter plate reader. The intensity of the colour formed by the enzymatic reaction is directly proportional to the concentration of CRP in the sample A set of calibrators is used to plot a standard curve from which the amount of CRP in samples and controls can be directly read.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the pentaxin family. It is involved in several host defense related functions based on its ability to recognize foreign pathogens and damaged cells of the host and to initiate their elimination by interacting with humoral and cellular effector systems in the blood. Consequently, the level of this protein in plasma increases greatly during acute phase response to tissue injury, infection, or other inflammatory stimuli. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]

Uniprot Description

CRP: Displays several functions associated with host defense: it promotes agglutination, bacterial capsular swelling, phagocytosis and complement fixation through its calcium-dependent binding to phosphorylcholine. Can interact with DNA and histones and may scavenge nuclear material released from damaged circulating cells. Belongs to the pentaxin family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The Human hsCRP crp (Catalog #AAA494066) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA494066 ELISA Kit recognizes Human hsCRP. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "C-Reactive Protein, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
