NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of a family of actin-related proteins (ARPs) which share significant amino acid sequence identity to conventional actins. Both actins and ARPs have an actin fold, which is an ATP-binding cleft, as a common feature. The ARPs are involved in diverse cellular processes, including vesicular transport, spindle orientation, nuclear migration and chromatin remodeling. This gene encodes a subunit of the BAF (BRG1/brm-associated factor) complex in mammals, which is functionally related to SWI/SNF complex in S. cerevisiae and Drosophila; the latter is thought to facilitate transcriptional activation of specific genes by antagonizing chromatin-mediated transcriptional repression. This subunit may be involved in the regulation of genes by structural modulation of their chromatin, specifically in the brain. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

BAF53B: a protein of the actin family involved in transcriptional activation and repression of select genes by chromatin remodeling (alteration of DNA-nucleosome topology). Required for maximal ATPase activity of the helicase SMARCA4 and for association of the SMARCA4 containing remodelling complex BAF with chromatin/nuclear matrix.

Protein type: Cytoskeletal

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 7q22

Cellular Component: SWI/SNF complex; nucleolus; nucleus

Molecular Function: structural constituent of cytoskeleton; transcription coactivator activity

Biological Process: regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; chromatin remodeling; nervous system development; establishment and/or maintenance of chromatin architecture; transcription, DNA-dependent

Product Notes

The Guinea Pig ACTL6B actl6b (Catalog #AAA7203179) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA7203179 ELISA Kit recognizes Guinea Pig ACTL6B. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Actin-like protein 6B (ACTL6B), ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
