Related Product Information for CKM assay kit
Background/Introduction: Creatine Kinase (CK), also known as phosphocreatine kinase, is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of one phosphate group from ATP to creatine generating phosphocreatine, an important energy reservoir in muscle and brain tissue. CK is a dimeric protein made up of B (brain) and M (muscle) subunits. Three isoenzymes, CK-MM, CK-MB, and CK-BB, have been observed. CK levels are elevated in various pathological conditions including myocardial infarction, rhabdomyolysis, muscular dystrophy, and renal failure. Creatine Kinase Activity Microplate Assay Kit provides a simple and direct procedure for measuring CK levels in a variety of samples such as blood, serum, and plasma. In this reaction, phosphocreatine and ADP are converted to creatine and ATP. The generated ATP is used by hexokinase to phosphorylate glucose resulting in glucose-6-phosphate, which is oxidized by NADP in the presence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase to produce NADPH and 6-phospho-D-gluconate, measured at 570 nm, proportionate to the CK activity present in the sample.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a cytoplasmic enzyme involved in energy homeostasis and is an important serum marker for myocardial infarction. The encoded protein reversibly catalyzes the transfer of phosphate between ATP and various phosphogens such as creatine phosphate. It acts as a homodimer in striated muscle as well as in other tissues, and as a heterodimer with a similar brain isozyme in heart. The encoded protein is a member of the ATP:guanido phosphotransferase protein family. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

CKM: Reversibly catalyzes the transfer of phosphate between ATP and various phosphogens (e.g. creatine phosphate). Creatine kinase isoenzymes play a central role in energy transduction in tissues with large, fluctuating energy demands, such as skeletal muscle, heart, brain and spermatozoa. Belongs to the ATP:guanido phosphotransferase family.

Product Notes

The General CKM ckm (Catalog #AAA8243202) is an Assay Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA8243202 Assay Kit recognizes General CKM. AAA Biotech's Creatine Kinase can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Functional Assay. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CKM ckm for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Creatine Kinase, Assay Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
