Uniprot Description

Function: Glucagon plays a key role in glucose metabolism and homeostasis. Regulates blood glucose by increasing gluconeogenesis and decreasing glycolysis.GLP-1 is a potent stimulator of glucose-dependent insulin release. Play important roles on gastric motility and the suppression of plasma glucagon levels.GLP-2 stimulates intestinal growth and up-regulates villus height in the small intestine, concomitant with increased crypt cell proliferation and decreased enterocyte apoptosis.

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Tissue specificity: Isoform LPII is expressed in both pancreas and intestine. Expression of isoform LPI is restricted to the pancreas. Neither isoform is detected in salivary glands. Ref.1

Induction: Produced in the A cells of the islets of Langerhans in response to a drop in blood sugar concentration.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the glucagon family.

Product Notes

The Glucagon (GCG) gcg (Catalog #AAA1088199) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli or Yeast or Baculovirus or Mammalian Cell and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is 21-50aa; Cytoplasmic domain. The amino acid sequence is listed below: SPLQETEEKS RSFKASQAEP LDDSRQLNEV. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Glucagon (GCG), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
