NCBI Description

This gene encodes a protein belonging to the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase family of enzymes that play an important role in carbohydrate metabolism. Like its somatic cell counterpart, this sperm-specific enzyme functions in a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide-dependent manner to remove hydrogen and add phosphate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate to form 1,3-diphosphoglycerate. During spermiogenesis, this enzyme may play an important role in regulating the switch between different energy-producing pathways, and it is required for sperm motility and male fertility. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

GAPDH-2: May play an important role in regulating the switch between different pathways for energy production during spermiogenesis and in the spermatozoon. Required for sperm motility and male fertility. Belongs to the glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase family.

Product Notes

The GAPDHS gapdhs (Catalog #AAA9424321) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Baculovirus and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is Partial, 69-408aa. The Recombinant Human Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, testis-specific (GAPDHS), partial reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDHS), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
