Recombinant full length human FABP protein with molecular weight 15 kDa.
Heart-type fatty acid binding protein (hFABP) also known as mammary-derived growth inhibitor is a protein that in humans is encoded by the FABP3 gene. It is a small cytoplasmic protein (15 kDa) released from cardiac myocytes following an ischemic episode. Like the nine other distinct FABPs that have been identified, H-FABP is involved in active fatty acid metabolism where it transports fatty acids from the cell membrane to mitochondria for oxidation. H-FABP is a sensitive biomarker for myocardial infarction and can be detected in the blood within one to three hours of the pain. It is also the biomarker for heart injury. In addition to its potential, H-FABP also has prognostic value. Alongside D-dimer, NT-proBNP and peak troponin T, it was the only cardiac biomarker that proved to be a statistically significant predictor of death or Mi at one year.

NCBI Description

The intracellular fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) belongs to a multigene family. FABPs are divided into at least three distinct types, namely the hepatic-, intestinal- and cardiac-type. They form 14-15 kDa proteins and are thought to participate in the uptake, intracellular metabolism and/or transport of long-chain fatty acids. They may also be responsible in the modulation of cell growth and proliferation. Fatty acid-binding protein 3 gene contains four exons and its function is to arrest growth of mammary epithelial cells. This gene is a candidate tumor suppressor gene for human breast cancer. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: FABP are thought to play a role in the intracellular transport of long-chain fatty acids and their acyl-CoA esters.

Subcellular location: Cytoplasm.

Domain: Forms a beta-barrel structure that accommodates the hydrophobic ligand in its interior.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the calycin superfamily. Fatty-acid binding protein (FABP) family.

Product Notes

The FABP3 fabp3 (Catalog #AAA355562) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's FABP heart, FABP3 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), SDS-PAGE. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the FABP3 fabp3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "FABP heart, FABP3, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
