Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for EPOR has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any EPOR present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for EPOR is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of EPOR bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes the erythropoietin receptor which is a member of the cytokine receptor family. Upon erythropoietin binding, this receptor activates Jak2 tyrosine kinase which activates different intracellular pathways including: Ras/MAP kinase, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and STAT transcription factors. The stimulated erythropoietin receptor appears to have a role in erythroid cell survival. Defects in the erythropoietin receptor may produce erythroleukemia and familial erythrocytosis. Dysregulation of this gene may affect the growth of certain tumors. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants.[provided by RefSeq, May 2010]
