Enolase-phosphatase E1, also known as ENOPH1, is a member of the MasA family of the HAD (halo-acid dehalogenase)-like hydrolase superfamily. ENOPH1 is a bifunctional enzyme, exhibiting both phosphatase and atypical enolase activities. ENOPH1 plays an important role in the ubiquitous methionine salvage pathway, a biochemical pathway found in all organisms that regulate methionine levels in the cell. Recombinant human ENOPH1 protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E Coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.

Uniprot Description

Bifunctional enzyme that catalyzes the enolization of 2,3-diketo-5-methylthiopentyl-1-phosphate (DK-MTP-1-P) into the intermediate 2-hydroxy-3-keto-5-methylthiopentenyl-1-phosphate (HK-MTPenyl-1-P), which is then dephosphorylated to form the acireductone 1,2-dihydroxy-3-keto-5-methylthiopentene (DHK-MTPene).
