Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for ENO1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any ENO1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for ENO1 is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of ENO1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes alpha-enolase, one of three enolase isoenzymes found in mammals. Each isoenzyme is a homodimer composed of 2 alpha, 2 gamma, or 2 beta subunits, and functions as a glycolytic enzyme. Alpha-enolase in addition, functions as a structural lens protein (tau-crystallin) in the monomeric form. Alternative splicing of this gene results in a shorter isoform that has been shown to bind to the c-myc promoter and function as a tumor suppressor. Several pseudogenes have been identified, including one on the long arm of chromosome 1. Alpha-enolase has also been identified as an autoantigen in Hashimoto encephalopathy. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2011]

Uniprot Description

Function: Multifunctional enzyme that, as well as its role in glycolysis, plays a part in various processes such as growth control, hypoxia tolerance and allergic responses. May also function in the intravascular and pericellular fibrinolytic system due to its ability to serve as a receptor and activator of plasminogen on the cell surface of several cell-types such as leukocytes and neurons. Stimulates immunoglobulin production.5 PublicationsManual assertion based on experiment in:Ref.3

Catalytic activity: 2-phospho-D-glycerate = phosphoenolpyruvate + H2O.1 PublicationManual assertion based on experiment in:Ref.18

Cofactor: Magnesium. Binds two Mg2+ per subunit. Required for catalysis and for stabilizing the dimer.1 PublicationManual assertion based on experiment in:Ref.39

Product Notes

The Human ENO1 eno1 (Catalog #AAA706020) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA706020 ELISA Kit recognizes Human ENO1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "enolase 1, (alpha), ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
