Lyophilized NT-4 although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18 degree C. Upon reconstitution NT-4 should be stored at 4 degree C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18 degree C.For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA).Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.
Related Product Information for NT 4 active protein
Description: Neurotrophin-4 Human Recombinant produced in E Coli is a noncovalently linked homodimer, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 2 x 130 amino acids (81-210 amino acids) and having a total molecular mass of 28 kDa. The NT-4 is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.

Introduction: NT-4 is part of the family of neurotrophic factors, neurotrophins, that are in charge for the survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons. NT-4 expression is dominant and less influenced by environmental signals. NT-4 deficient mice shows slight cellular deficits and develop normally to adulthood. NT-4 is a target-derived survival factor for peripheral sensory sympathetic neurons.NT-4 is involved in the proliferation and differentiation of periodontal ligament cells.

NCBI Description

This gene is a member of a family of neurotrophic factors, neurotrophins, that control survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons. The expression of this gene is ubiquitous and less influenced by environmental signals. While knock-outs of other neurotrophins including nerve growth factor, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, and neurotrophin 3 prove lethal during early postnatal development, NTF5-deficient mice only show minor cellular deficits and develop normally to adulthood. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

NT-4/5: Target-derived survival factor for peripheral sensory sympathetic neurons. Defects in NTF4 may be associated with susceptibility to primary open angle glaucoma type 1O (GLC1O). A form of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). POAG is characterized by a specific pattern of optic nerve and visual field defects. The angle of the anterior chamber of the eye is open, and usually the intraocular pressure is increased. The disease is asymptomatic until the late stages, by which time significant and irreversible optic nerve damage has already taken place. Belongs to the NGF-beta family.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide; Cytokine; Cell development/differentiation

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19q13.3

Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum lumen; cytoplasmic membrane-bound vesicle; extracellular region

Molecular Function: neurotrophin p75 receptor binding; growth factor activity

Biological Process: epidermis development; mechanoreceptor differentiation; long-term memory; cell-cell signaling; regulation of neuron differentiation; adult locomotory behavior; sensory organ boundary specification; ganglion mother cell fate determination; negative regulation of neuron apoptosis; neurite morphogenesis; transmembrane receptor protein tyrosine kinase signaling pathway
