Related Product Information for mTPO active protein
Description: Thrombopoietin Mouse Recombinant produced in E Coli is a single, non-glycosylated soluble polypeptide chain containing 174 amino acids and having a molecular mass of 18704 Dalton. The TPO is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.

Introduction: Thrombopoietin is a glycoprotein hormone produced mainly by the liver and the kidneyt hat regulates the production of platelets by the bone marrow. It stimulates the production and differentiation of megakaryocytes, the bone marrow cells that fragment into large numbers of platelets.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a humoral growth factor necessary for megakaryocyte proliferation and maturation, as well as for thrombopoiesis. The encoded protein is a ligand for the product of the myeloproliferative leukemia virus oncogene. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]

Uniprot Description

THPO: Lineage-specific cytokine affecting the proliferation and maturation of megakaryocytes from their committed progenitor cells. It acts at a late stage of megakaryocyte development. It may be the major physiological regulator of circulating platelets. Defects in THPO are the cause of thrombocythemia type 1 (THCYT1). A myeloproliferative disorder characterized by elevated platelet levels due to sustained proliferation of megakaryocytes, and frequently lead to thrombotic and haemorrhagic complications. Belongs to the EPO/TPO family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Cytokine; Secreted; Cell cycle regulation; Secreted, signal peptide

Cellular Component: extracellular space; extracellular region

Molecular Function: hormone activity; cytokine activity; receptor binding

Biological Process: positive regulation of protein kinase B signaling cascade; cell proliferation; myeloid cell differentiation; positive regulation of megakaryocyte differentiation; positive regulation of protein amino acid phosphorylation
