Related Product Information for IL-1 alpha active protein
IL-1alpha is a non-secreted proinflammatory cytokine produced in a variety of cells including monocytes, tissue macrophages, keratinocytes and other epithelial cells. Both IL-1alpha and IL-1beta binds to the same receptor and has similar if not identical biological properties. These cytokines have a broad range of activities including, stimulation of thymocyte proliferation, by inducing IL-2 release, B-cell maturation and proliferation, mitogenic FGF-like activity and the ability to stimulate the release of prostaglandin and collagenase from synovial cells. However, whereas IL-1beta is a secreted cytokine, IL-1alpha is predominantly a cell-associated cytokine. Recombinant murine IL-1alpha is an 17.9 kDa protein containing 156 amino acid residues.

Uniprot Description

Function: Produced by activated macrophages, IL-1 stimulates thymocyte proliferation by inducing IL-2 release, B-cell maturation and proliferation, and fibroblast growth factor activity. IL-1 proteins are involved in the inflammatory response, being identified as endogenous pyrogens, and are reported to stimulate the release of prostaglandin and collagenase from synovial cells.

Subunit structure: Monomer.

Subcellular location: Secreted. Note: The lack of a specific hydrophobic segment in the precursor sequence suggests that IL-1 is released by damaged cells or is secreted by a mechanism differing from that used for other secretory proteins.

Domain: The similarity among the IL-1 precursors suggests that the amino ends of these proteins serve some as yet undefined function.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the IL-1 family.

The amino acid sequence is listed below: SAPYTYQSDL RYKLMKLVRQ KFVMNDSLNQ TIYQDVDKHY LSTTWL NDLQ QEVKFDMYAY SSGGDDSKYP VTLKISDSQL FVSAQGEDQP V LLKELPETP KLITGSETDL IFFWKSINSK NYFTSAAYPE LFIATKE QSR VHLARGLPSM TDFQIS. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "IL-1 alpha, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
