Related Product Information for IGF2 active protein
Description: Insulin-Like Growth Factor-II Human Recombinant produced in E Coli is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 67 amino acids and having a molecular mass of 7505 Dalton. IGF-II is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.

Introduction: IGF-2 is a member of the insulin family of polypeptide growth factors that is involved in development and growth. It is an imprinted gene and is expressed only from the paternally inherited allele. It is a candidate gene for eating disorders. There is a read-through, INS-IGF2, which aligns to this gene at the 3' region and to the upstream INS gene at the 5' region. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the insulin family of polypeptide growth factors, which are involved in development and growth. It is an imprinted gene, expressed only from the paternal allele, and epigenetic changes at this locus are associated with Wilms tumour, Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, rhabdomyosarcoma, and Silver-Russell syndrome. A read-through INS-IGF2 gene exists, whose 5' region overlaps the INS gene and the 3' region overlaps this gene. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2010]

Uniprot Description

IGF2: The insulin-like growth factors possess growth-promoting activity. In vitro, they are potent mitogens for cultured cells. IGF-II is influenced by placental lactogen and may play a role in fetal development. Epigenetic changes of DNA hypomethylation in IGF2 are a cause of Silver-Russell syndrome (SRS). A clinically heterogeneous condition characterized by severe intrauterine growth retardation, poor postnatal growth, craniofacial features such as a triangular shaped face and a broad forehead, body asymmetry, and a variety of minor malformations. The phenotypic expression changes during childhood and adolescence, with the facial features and asymmetry usually becoming more subtle with age. Belongs to the insulin family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The IGF2 igf2 (Catalog #AAA142142) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The amino acid sequence is listed below: AYRPSETLCG GELVDTLQFV CGDRGFYFSR PASRVSRRSR GIVEECCFRS CDLALLETYC ATPAKSE. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Insulin Like Growth Factor-2, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
