Related Product Information for IL2 active protein
Human Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is a lymphokine which biological effects include activation and proliferation of T cells, B cells, and other lymphokine activated killer cells. Human IL-2 is composed of 133aa, including 3 cysteine residues, two of which are involved in a disulfide bond essential for biological activity. Human and murine IL-2 are 62% homologous, and human IL-2 has been found to be active on murine cell lines.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a secreted cytokine that is important for the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes. The receptor of this cytokine is a heterotrimeric protein complex whose gamma chain is also shared by interleukin 4 (IL4) and interleukin 7 (IL7). The expression of this gene in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, which represents an unusual regulatory mode for controlling the precise expression of a single gene. The targeted disruption of a similar gene in mice leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, which suggests an essential role of this gene in the immune response to antigenic stimuli. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

Function: Produced by T-cells in response to antigenic or mitogenic stimulation, this protein is required for T-cell proliferation and other activities crucial to regulation of the immune response. Can stimulate B-cells, monocytes, lymphokine-activated killer cells, natural killer cells, and glioma cells.

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Involvement in disease: Note=A chromosomal aberration involving IL2 is found in a form of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). Translocation t(4;16)(q26;p13) with involves TNFRSF17.

Pharmaceutical use: Available under the name Proleukin (Chiron). Used in patients with renal cell carcinoma or metastatic melanoma.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the IL-2 family.

Sequence caution: The sequence AAA59140.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation.

Product Notes

The IL2 il2 (Catalog #AAA650474) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Interleukin 2, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
