Preparation and Storage
The lyophilized protein is stable for at least one year from date of receipt at-70 degree C. Upon reconstitution, this cytokine can be stored in working aliquots at 2-8 degree C for one month, or at-20 degree C for six months, with a carrier protein without detectable loss of activity. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

Related Product Information for IL16 active protein
Interleukin 16 (IL16) is a pleiotrophic cytokine derived from CD8+ T-cells that stimulates chemotaxis in CD4+ lymphocytes, monocytes, and eosinophils. It primes CD4+ T-cells for IL2 and IL15 responsiveness, induces T-lymphocyte Interleukin 2 (IL2) receptor expression, and inhibits HIV replication. The signalling process of IL16 is mediated by CD4, and undergoes proteolysis to yield two functional proteins. IL16 isoform 1 has the possible function of acting as a scaffolding protein to anchor ion channels in the membrane, while isoform 3 is involved in cell cycle progression in T-cells and transcriptional regulation of SKP2. IL16 mRNA expression levels have been found in various tissues such as spleen, bone marrow, thymus, and lymph nodes.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a pleiotropic cytokine that functions as a chemoattractant, a modulator of T cell activation, and an inhibitor of HIV replication. The signaling process of this cytokine is mediated by CD4. The product of this gene undergoes proteolytic processing, which is found to yield two functional proteins. The cytokine function is exclusively attributed to the secreted C-terminal peptide, while the N-terminal product may play a role in cell cycle control. Caspase 3 is reported to be involved in the proteolytic processing of this protein. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2010]

Uniprot Description

IL16: Interleukin-16 stimulates a migratory response in CD4+ lymphocytes, monocytes, and eosinophils. Primes CD4+ T-cells for IL-2 and IL-15 responsiveness. Also induces T-lymphocyte expression of interleukin 2 receptor. Ligand for CD4. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative promoter.

Product Notes

The IL16 il16 (Catalog #AAA4159851) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "IL16, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
