Host
E Coli
Purity/Purification
Molecular Biology Grade
95% by SDS-PAGE.
Form/Format
Sterile-filtered solution lyophilized from 10mM sodium citrate, pH 4.0
Sequence
GNFLTGLGHR SDHYNCVSSG GQCLYSACPI FTKIQGTCYR GKAKCCK
Biological Activity
Determined by its ability to chemoattract CD34+ dendritic cells using a concentration range of 100.0-1000.0 ng/ml
Endotoxin Level
0.1ng/ug (1EU/ug).
Reconstitution
We recommend a quick spin followed by reconstitution in water to a concentration of 0.1-1mg/ml. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers and stored at 4 degree C for 1 week or -20 degree C for future use.
Preparation and Storage
-20 degree C
Stability: Lyophilized protein is stable for a few weeks at room temperature, but best stored at -20 degree C. Reconstituted human BD-1 should be stored in working aliquots at -20 degree C.

NCBI Description

Defensins form a family of microbicidal and cytotoxic peptides made by neutrophils. Members of the defensin family are highly similar in protein sequence. This gene encodes defensin, beta 1, an antimicrobial peptide implicated in the resistance of epithelial surfaces to microbial colonization. This gene maps in close proximity to defensin family member, defensin, alpha 1 and has been implicated in the pathogenesis of cystic fibrosis. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

Function: Has bactericidal activity

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Tissue specificity: Plasma.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the beta-defensin family.

Mass spectrometry: Molecular mass is 3928±0.5 Da from positions 33 - 68. Determined by ESI. Ref.5

Product Notes

The DEFB1 defb1 (Catalog #AAA650831) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The amino acid sequence is listed below: GNFLTGLGHR SDHYNCVSSG GQCLYSACPI FTKIQGTCYR GKAKCCK. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "BD1, 47aa, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
