NCBI Description

This gene encodes a doublecortin domain-containing family member. The doublecortin domain has been demonstrated to bind tubulin and enhance microtubule polymerization. This family member is thought to function in neuronal migration where it may affect the signaling of primary cilia. Mutations in this gene have been associated with reading disability (RD) type 2, also referred to as developmental dyslexia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2013]

Uniprot Description

DCDC2: May be involved in neuronal migration during development of the cerebral neocortex. Defects in DCDC2 may be a cause of susceptibility to dyslexia type 2 (DYX2); also known as specific reading disability type 2. Dyslexia is a relatively common, complex cognitive disorder that affects 5% to 10% of school-aged children. The disorder is characterized by an impairment of reading performance despite adequate motivational, educational and intellectual opportunities and in the absence of sensory or neurological disability. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The DCDC2 dcdc2 (Catalog #AAA428300) is a Blocking Peptide and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The DCDC2 Immunizing Peptide reacts with Human, Dog, Pig and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. The amino acid sequence is listed below: C-DGEKANKD AEQKED. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "DCDC2, Blocking Peptide" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
