Principle of the Assay: This kit was based on Competitive-ELISA detection method. The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with CT. During the reaction, CT in the sample or standard competes with a fixed amount of CT on the solid phase supporter for sites on the Biotinylated Detection Antibody specific to CT. Excess conjugate and unbound sample or standard are washed from the plate, and HRP-Streptavidin (SABC) is added to each microplate well and incubated. Then TMB substrate solution is added to each well. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of a sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm. The concentration of CT in the samples is then determined by comparing the O D of the samples to the standard curve.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes the peptide hormones calcitonin, calcitonin gene-related peptide and katacalcin by tissue-specific alternative RNA splicing of the gene transcripts and cleavage of inactive precursor proteins. Calcitonin is involved in calcium regulation and acts to regulate phosphorus metabolism. Calcitonin gene-related peptide functions as a vasodilator and as an antimicrobial peptide while katacalcin is a calcium-lowering peptide. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Aug 2014]

Uniprot Description

CALCA: Calcitonin causes a rapid but short-lived drop in the level of calcium and phosphate in blood by promoting the incorporation of those ions in the bones. Belongs to the calcitonin family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The Mouse CT calca (Catalog #AAA764930) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA764930 ELISA Kit recognizes Mouse CT. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Calcitonin, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
