Principle of the Assay||This kit was based on sandwich enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay technology. anti-Human COL13 antibody was pre-coated onto 96-well plates. And the biotin conjugated anti-Human COL13 antibody was used as detection antibodies. The standards, test samples and biotin conjugated detection antibody were added to the wells subsequently, and wash with wash buffer. HRP-Streptavidin was added and unbound conjugates were washed away with wash buffer. TMB substrates were used to visualize HRP enzymatic reaction. TMB was catalyzed by HRP to produce a blue color product that changed into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow is proportional to the Human COL13 amount of sample captured in plate. Read the O.D. absorbance at 450nm in a microplate reader, and then the concentration of Human COL13 can be calculated.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes the alpha chain of one of the nonfibrillar collagens. The function of this gene product is not known, however, it has been detected at low levels in all connective tissue-producing cells so it may serve a general function in connective tissues. Unlike most of the collagens, which are secreted into the extracellular matrix, collagen XIII contains a transmembrane domain and the protein has been localized to the plasma membrane. The transcripts for this gene undergo complex and extensive splicing involving at least eight exons. Like other collagens, collagen XIII is a trimer; it is not known whether this trimer is composed of one or more than one alpha chain isomer. A number of alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, but the full length nature of some of them has not been determined. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

COL13A1: Involved in cell-matrix and cell-cell adhesion interactions that are required for normal development. May participate in the linkage between muscle fiber and basement membrane. May play a role in endochondral ossification of bone and branching morphogenesis of lung. Binds heparin. 10 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10q22

Cellular Component: collagen type XIII; endoplasmic reticulum lumen; extracellular region; intercellular junction; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: heparin binding; protein binding

Biological Process: cell differentiation; cell-cell adhesion; cell-matrix adhesion; collagen catabolic process; endochondral ossification; extracellular matrix disassembly; extracellular matrix organization and biogenesis; morphogenesis of a branching structure

Product Notes

The Human COL13 col13a1 (Catalog #AAA760064) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA760064 ELISA Kit recognizes Human COL13. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Collagen Type XIII, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
