Related Product Information for IL-12 active protein
IL-12 is a potent regulator of cell mediated immune responses and it induces IFN-gamma production by NK and T cells. It is produced by activated monocytes/macrophage cells, B lymphocytes and connective tissue type mast cells. Among its biological activities IL-12 promotes the growth and activity of activated NK, CD4+ and CD8+ cells and induces the development of IFN-gamma producing Th1 cells. Recombinant Human IL-12 is a 75.0 kDa heterodimeric glycoprotein consisting of disulfide-linked 35 kDa (p35) and 40 kDa (p40) subunits (503 total amino acid residues).

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a subunit of a cytokine that acts on T and natural killer cells, and has a broad array of biological activities. The cytokine is a disulfide-linked heterodimer composed of the 35-kD subunit encoded by this gene, and a 40-kD subunit that is a member of the cytokine receptor family. This cytokine is required for the T-cell-independent induction of interferon (IFN)-gamma, and is important for the differentiation of both Th1 and Th2 cells. The responses of lymphocytes to this cytokine are mediated by the activator of transcription protein STAT4. Nitric oxide synthase 2A (NOS2A/NOS2) is found to be required for the signaling process of this cytokine in innate immunity. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Cytokine that can act as a growth factor for activated T and NK cells, enhance the lytic activity of NK/lymphokine-activated Killer cells, and stimulate the production of IFN-gamma by resting PBMC.

Subunit structure: Heterodimer with IL12B; disulfide-linked. The heterodimer is known as interleukin IL-12. Ref.8

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Induction: Down-regulated in response to enterovirus 71 (EV71) infection. Ref.7

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the IL-6 superfamily.

Sequence caution: The sequence AAA59937.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation.

Product Notes

The IL-12 il12a (Catalog #AAA691778) is an Active Protein produced from CHO Cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Human IL-12 reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. The amino acid sequence is listed below: p35 Subunit: RNLPVA TPDPGMFPCL HHSQNLLRAV SNMLQKAR QT LEFYPCTSEE IDHEDITKDK TSTVEACLPL ELTKNESCLN SRE TSFITNG SCLASRKTSF MMALCLSSIY EDLKMYQVEF KTMNAKLLM D PKRQIFLDQN MLAVIDELMQ ALNFNSETVP QKSSLEEPDF YKTK IKLCIL LHAFRIRAVT IDRVMSYLNA S p40 Subunit: IWELKK DVYVVELDWY PDAPGEMVVL TCDTPEEDGI TWTLDQSSEV LGSGK TLTIQ VKEFGDAGQY TCHKGGEVLS HSLLLLHKKE DGIWSTDILK DQKEPKNKTF LRCEAKNYSG RFTCWWLTTI STDLTFSVKS SRGSSD PQGV TCGAATLSAE RVRGDNKEYE YSVECQEDSA CPAAEESLPI E VMVDAVHKL KYENYTSSFF IRDIIKPDPP KNLQLKPLKN SRQVEVS WEY PDTWSTPHSY FSLTFCVQVQ GKSKREKKDR VFTDKTSATV IC RKNASISV RAQDRYYSSS WSEWASVPCS. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "IL-12, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
