Chemokine (C-C Motif) Ligand 1 (CCL1) is a small glycoprotein secreted by activated T cells, which play acentral role during immunoregulatory and inflammaion processes. Human CCL1 has been assumed to be ahomologue of the mouse TCA3. While the two proteins share only approximately 42% amino acid sequenceidentity, both chemokines contain an extra pair of cysteine residues not found in most other chemokines.CCL1 attracts monocytes, NK cells, and immature B cells and dendritic cells by interacting with cell surfacechemokine receptor CCR8. CCL1 is identified as a potent inhibitor of HIV-1 envelope-mediated cell-cellfusion and virus infection.

This antimicrobial gene is one of several chemokine genes clustered on the q-arm of chromosome 17. Chemokines form a superfamily of secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The superfamily is divided into four subfamilies based on the arrangement of the N-terminal cysteine residues of the mature peptide. This chemokine, a member of the CC subfamily, is secreted by activated T cells and displays chemotactic activity for monocytes but not for neutrophils.
