Related Product Information for CALCA elisa kit
Principle of the Assay: The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with an antibody specific to Calcitonin. Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with a biotin-conjugated antibody preparation specific for Calcitonin and Avidin conjugated to Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to each microplate well and incubated. Then a TMB (3,3',5,5' tetramethyl-benzidine) substrate solution is added to each well. Only those wells that contain Calcitonin, biotin-conjugated antibody and enzyme-conjugated Avidin will exhibit a change in color. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of a sulphuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at a wavelength of 450 nm +/- 2 nm. The concentration of Calcitonin in the samples is then determined by comparing the O.D. of the samples to the standard curve.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes the peptide hormones calcitonin, calcitonin gene-related peptide and katacalcin by tissue-specific alternative RNA splicing of the gene transcripts and cleavage of inactive precursor proteins. Calcitonin is involved in calcium regulation and acts to regulate phosphorus metabolism. Calcitonin gene-related peptide functions as a vasodilator and as an antimicrobial peptide while katacalcin is a calcium-lowering peptide. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Aug 2014]

Uniprot Description

Function: Calcitonin causes a rapid but short-lived drop in the level of calcium and phosphate in blood by promoting the incorporation of those ions in the bones.

Product Notes

The Human CALCA calca (Catalog #AAA702461) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA702461 ELISA Kit recognizes Human CALCA. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "calcitonin-related polypeptide alpha, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
