NCBI Description

This gene encodes a component of the complement cascade. The encoded protein is part of the membrane attack complex that can be incorporated into the cell membrane and cause cell lysis. Mutations in this gene are associated with complement component-6 deficiency. Transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described.[provided by RefSeq, Nov 2012]

Uniprot Description

C6: Constituent of the membrane attack complex (MAC) that plays a key role in the innate and adaptive immune response by forming pores in the plasma membrane of target cells. Defects in C6 are the cause of complement component 6 deficiency (C6D). A rare defect of the complement classical pathway associated with susceptibility to severe recurrent infections, predominantly by Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Neisseria meningitidis. Belongs to the complement C6/C7/C8/C9 family.

Product Notes

The C6 c6 (Catalog #AAA2545514) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Human Cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The secreted recombinant human C6 comprises 924 amino acids and has a predicted molecular mass of 104 kDa. The apparent molecular mass of rh C6 is approximately 110 kDa in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the C6 c6 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "C6 / complement component 6, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
