NCBI Description

BtuB translation is regulated by adenosylcobalamin binding directly to btuB mRNA, a B12-responsive riboswitch. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG10126]. BtuB is an outer membrane porin that mediates high affinity binding and TonB- dependent active transport of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) across the outer membrane. [More information is available at EcoCyc: EG10126].

Uniprot Description

Involved in the active translocation of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) across the outer membrane to the periplasmic space. It derives its energy for transport by interacting with the trans-periplasmic membrane protein TonB. Is also a receptor for bacteriophages BF23 and C1, and for A and E colicins.

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Vitamin B12 transporter BtuB (btuB), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
