NCBI Description

This gene encodes a selenoprotein, which contains a selenocysteine (Sec) residue at its active site. The selenocysteine is encoded by the UGA codon that normally signals translation termination. The 3' UTR of selenoprotein genes have a common stem-loop structure, the sec insertion sequence (SECIS), that is necessary for the recognition of UGA as a Sec codon rather than as a stop signal. This gene is expressed in a variety of tissues, and the protein is localized to the perinuclear structures. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

SELM: May function as a thiol-disulfide oxidoreductase that participates in disulfide bond formation. Belongs to the selenoprotein M/SEP15 family.

Protein type: Endoplasmic reticulum

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 22q12.2

Molecular Function: protein binding

Product Notes

The SELM selm (Catalog #AAA9228846) is a Blocking Peptide and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SELM, Blocking Peptide" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
