Biological Activity
Specific activity is > 45 units/mg, obtained by measuring the increase of beta-NADPH in absorbance at 340 nm resulting from the reduction of beta-NADP. One unit oxidizes 1.0 umole D-glucose-6-phosphate to 6-phospho-D-gluconate per min in the presence of beta-NADP at pH 7.4 at 25C.
Preparation and Storage
Can be stored at 4 degree C short term (1-2 weeks).
For long term storage, aliquot and store at -20 degree C or -70 degree C.
Avoid repeated freezing and thawing cycles.

Related Product Information for G6PD active protein
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) is the rate-limiting enzyme of the pentose phosphate pathway, a metabolic pathway that supplies reducing energy to cells by maintaining the level of NADPH. G6PD converts glucose-6-phosphate into 6-phosphoglucono-delta-lactone and simultaneously produce NADPH. The NADPH in turn maintains the level of glutathione in these cells that helps protect the red blood cells against oxidative damage. G6PD deficiency cause acute hemolytic anemia. Recombinant human G6PD protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in Hi-5 cell using baculovirus expression system and purified by using conventional chromatography.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. This protein is a cytosolic enzyme encoded by a housekeeping X-linked gene whose main function is to produce NADPH, a key electron donor in the defense against oxidizing agents and in reductive biosynthetic reactions. G6PD is remarkable for its genetic diversity. Many variants of G6PD, mostly produced from missense mutations, have been described with wide ranging levels of enzyme activity and associated clinical symptoms. G6PD deficiency may cause neonatal jaundice, acute hemolysis, or severe chronic non-spherocytic hemolytic anemia. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Uniprot Description

Catalyzes the rate-limiting step of the oxidative pentose-phosphate pathway, which represents a route for the dissimilation of carbohydrates besides glycolysis. The main function of this enzyme is to provide reducing power (NADPH) and pentose phosphates for fatty acid and nucleic acid synthesis.

Product Notes

The G6PD g6pd (Catalog #AAA204787) is an Active Protein produced from Baculovirus and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The tag for this protein is His-tag. AAA Biotech's G6PD can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, SDS-PAGE. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the G6PD g6pd for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: MGSSHHHHHH SSGLVPRGSH MAEQVALSRT QVCGILREEL FQGDAFHQSD THIFIIMGAS GDLAKKKIYP TIWWLFRDGL LPENTFIVGY ARSRLTVADI RKQSEPFFKA TPEEKLKLED FFARNSYVAG QYDDAASYQR LNSHMNALHL GSQANRLFYL ALPPTVYEAV TKNIHESCMS QIGWNRIIVE KPFGRDLQSS DRLSNHISSL FREDQIYRID HYLGKEMVQN LMVLRFANRI FGPIWNRDNI ACVILTFKEP FGTEGRGGYF DEFGIIRDVM QNHLLQMLCL VAMEKPASTN SDDVRDEKVK VLKCISEVQA NNVVLGQYVG NPDGEGEATK GYLDDPTVPR GSTTATFAAV VLYVENERWD GVPFILRCGK ALNERKAEVR LQFHDVAGDI FHQQCKRNEL VIRVQPNEAV YTKMMTKKPG MFFNPEESEL DLTYGNRYKN VKLPDAYERL ILDVFCGSQM HFVRSDELRE AWRIFTPLLH QIELEKPKPI PYIYGSRGPT EADELMKRVG FQYEGTYKWV NPHKL. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "G6PD, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
