Biological Activity
The biological activity of human TGF-&# beta2 is determined by measuring the acidification of the culture medium (Rat-1 cells) exposed to the growth factor.
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degree C. Reconstitute to with sterile dH2O or buffer, aliquot and store at -20 degree C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Related Product Information for TGFB2 active protein
Human Transforming Growth Factor beta2 (TGF- beta2) is stimulatory for cells of mesenchymal origin and inhibitory for cells of epithelial or neuroectodermal origin. Mature TGF- beta2 is a disulfide-linked homodimer of two chains composed of 112 aa residues each. There is a 70% homology between human TGF- beta2 and human TGF- beta1.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the transforming growth factor beta (TGFB) family of cytokines, which are multifunctional peptides that regulate proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, migration, and other functions in many cell types by transducing their signal through combinations of transmembrane type I and type II receptors (TGFBR1 and TGFBR2) and their downstream effectors, the SMAD proteins. Disruption of the TGFB/SMAD pathway has been implicated in a variety of human cancers. The encoded protein is secreted and has suppressive effects of interleukin-2 dependent T-cell growth. Translocation t(1;7)(q41;p21) between this gene and HDAC9 is associated with Peters' anomaly, a congenital defect of the anterior chamber of the eye. The knockout mice lacking this gene show perinatal mortality and a wide range of developmental, including cardiac, defects. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

Function: TGF-beta 2 has suppressive effects on interleukin-2 dependent T-cell growth.

Subunit structure: Homodimer; disulfide-linked. Interacts with ASPN. Ref.11

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Involvement in disease: Note=A chromosomal aberration involving TGFB2 is found in a family with Peters anomaly. Translocation t(1;7)(q41;p21) with HDAC9.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the TGF-beta family.

Product Notes

The TGFB2 tgfb2 (Catalog #AAA650224) is an Active Protein produced from bacteria and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Transforming Growth Factor beta-2 Human, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
