Related Product Information for Akr1a1 recombinant protein
This gene encodes a member of the aldo
keto reductase superfamily, which consists of more than 40 known enzymes and proteins. This member, also known as aldehyde reductase, is involved in the reduction of biogenic and xenobiotic aldehydes and is present in virtually every tissue. Alternative splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein.

NCBI Description

enzyme that catalyzes the NADPH-dependent reduction of 3-deoxyglucosone; important for detoxifying 3-deoxyglucosone when it is formed through the Maillard reaction in vivo [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

Catalyzes the NADPH-dependent reduction of a variety of aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes to their corresponding alcohols. Catalyzes the reduction of mevaldate to mevalonic acid and of glyceraldehyde to glycerol. Has broad substrate specificity. Plays a role in the activation of procarcinogens, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon trans-dihydrodiols, and in the metabolism of various xenobiotics and drugs (). Catalyzes the NADPH-dependent reduction of 3-deoxyglucosone (3-DG).

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Alcohol dehydrogenase [NADP (+)] (Akr1a1), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
