Biological Activity
Biological activity is determined by IL-6 abiltiy fo chemoattract CD4+ T-lymphocytes using a concentration range of 1-100ng/ml. For most known in vitro applications, IL-16 exerts it biological activity in the concentration range of 0.1-20ng/ml.

Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degree C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O, carrier protein. Aliquot and store at -20 degree C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Related Product Information for Interleukin 16 active protein
IL-16 is a CD8+ T cell-derived cytokine that induces chemotaxis of CD4+ T cells and CD4+ monocytes and eosinophils. Analysis by gel filtration suggests that, under physiological conditions, hIL-16 exists predominantly as a noncovalently linked multimer. Some IL-16 may exist as a monomer. Only the multimeric form appears to possess chemotactic activity, suggesting that receptor cross-linking may be required for activity. IL-16 also induces expression of IL-2 receptor (IL-2R) and MHC class II molecules on CD4 + T cells. Human and murine IL-16 show significant crossspecies reactivity. Recombinant human IL-16 is a 13.5kD protein consisting of 130 amino acid residues.

Uniprot Description

IL16: Interleukin-16 stimulates a migratory response in CD4+ lymphocytes, monocytes, and eosinophils. Primes CD4+ T-cells for IL-2 and IL-15 responsiveness. Also induces T-lymphocyte expression of interleukin 2 receptor. Ligand for CD4. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative promoter.

The amino acid sequence is listed below: MPDLNSSTDS AASASAASDV SVESTAEATV CTVTLEKMSA GLGFSLEGGK GSLHGDKPLT INRIFKGAAS EQSETVQPGD EILQLGGTAM QGLTRFEAWN IIKALPDGPV TIVIRRKSLQ SKETTAAGDS. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Interleukin 16, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
