Biological Activity
Measured by its ability to inhibit the biological activity of IGF-I or IGFII on MCF7 human breast adenocarcinoma cells. The ED50 for this effect is typically 1-4ug/ml in the presence of 6ng/ml recombinant human IGFI.

Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degree C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. Reconstitute with PBS. Aliquot and store at -20 degree C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

The superfamily of insulinlike growth factor (IGF) binding proteins include the six highaffinity IGF binding proteins (IGFBP) and at least four additional lowaffinity binding proteins referred to as IGFBP related proteins (IGFBPrP). All IGFBP superfamily members are cysteinerich proteins with conserved cysteine residues, which are clustered in the amino and carboxyterminal thirds of the molecule. IGFBPs modulate the biological activities of IGF proteins. Some IGFBPs may also have intrinsic bioactivity that is independent of their ability to bind IGF proteins. Posttransitional modifications of IGFBP, including glycosylation, phosphorylation and proteolysis, have been shown to modify the affinities of the binding proteins to IGF.
