• Preparation and Storage: Lyophilized humanCD33/Siglec-3 protein product should be stored desiccated below -20 degree C. Upon reconstitution, the protein should be stored at 4 degree C between 2-7 days and for future use below -20 degree C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Background: The transmembrane protein CD33 is a sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectin that mediate the cell-cell interaction and inhibiting normal functions of immune cells. CD33: Putative adhesion molecule of myelomonocytic-derived cells that mediates sialic-acid dependent binding to cells. Preferentially binds to alpha-2,6-linked sialic acid. The sialic acid recognition site may be masked by cis interactions with sialic acids on the same cell surface. In the immune response, may act as an inhibitory receptor upon ligand induced tyrosine phosphorylation by recruiting cytoplasmic phosphatase(s) via their SH2 domain(s) that block signal transduction through dephosphorylation of signaling molecules. Induces apoptosis in acute myeloid leukemia (in vitro). Belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. SIGLEC (sialic acid binding Ig-like lectin) family.
