A test is defined as the amount (ug) of antibody that will stain a cell sample in a final volume of 100 ul. Cell number should be determined empirically but can range from 10^5 to 10^8 cells/test.
Biological Significance
The HM48-1 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD48 antigen also known as BCM1, Blast-1, and OX-45. CD48, a member of the SLAM family and Ig superfamily, is a 45 kDa GPI-linked glycoprotein expressed on the majority of hematopoietic cells. Recent publications have reported differential expression of members of the SLAM family including CD48, CD150, and CD244 among functionally distinct bone marrow hematopoietic progenitors providing a useful tool for prediction of the primitiveness of hematopoietic progenitors based on the expression of these SLAM family members. Hematopoietic stem cells are highly purified as CD150CD244CD48 cells while non-self-renewing multipotent hematopoietic progenitors are CD244CD150CD48 and the most restricted progenitors are CD48CD244CD150.CD48 plays a critical role in adhesion and T cell activation. In the mouse, the primary counter-receptors for CD48 are CD2 and CD244. HM48-1 is reported to modulate in vitro and in vivo CD48 functions including blocking the CD48/CD2 and CD48/CD244 interactions, inhibiting the proliferative response of mitogen-activated spleen cells, providing a costimulation signal for T cells activated in vitro through their TCR, and prolonging cardiac allograft survival in vivo.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the CD2 subfamily of immunoglobulin-like receptors which includes SLAM (signaling lymphocyte activation molecules) proteins. The encoded protein is found on the surface of lymphocytes and other immune cells, dendritic cells and endothelial cells, and participates in activation and differentiation pathways in these cells. The encoded protein does not have a transmembrane domain, however, but is held at the cell surface by a GPI anchor via a C-terminal domain which maybe cleaved to yield a soluble form of the receptor. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]

Product Notes

The CD48 cd48 (Catalog #AAA832253) is an Antibody produced from Hamster and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's CD48 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Flow Cytometry (FC/FACS). FC: 5 ul (0.125 ug)/test A test is defined as the amount (ug) of antibody that will stain a cell sample in a final volume of 100 ul. Cell number should be determined empirically but can range from 10^5 to 10^8 cells/test. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD48 cd48 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD48, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
