NCBI Description

The gene product was initially identified as a 190-kD protein associated with the contactin-PTPRZ1 complex. The 1,384-amino acid protein, also designated p190 or CASPR for 'contactin-associated protein,' includes an extracellular domain with several putative protein-protein interaction domains, a putative transmembrane domain, and a 74-amino acid cytoplasmic domain. Northern blot analysis showed that the gene is transcribed predominantly in brain as a transcript of 6.2 kb, with weak expression in several other tissues tested. The architecture of its extracellular domain is similar to that of neurexins, and this protein may be the signaling subunit of contactin, enabling recruitment and activation of intracellular signaling pathways in neurons. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2009]

Uniprot Description

CNTNAP1: Seems to play a role in the formation of functional distinct domains critical for saltatory conduction of nerve impulses in myelinated nerve fibers. Seems to demarcate the paranodal region of the axo-glial junction. In association with contactin may have a role in the signaling between axons and myelinating glial cells. Belongs to the neurexin family.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17q21

Cellular Component: voltage-gated potassium channel complex; integral to plasma membrane; paranode region of axon; integral to membrane

Product Notes

The CASPR1 cntnap1 (Catalog #AAA8306334) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-CASPR1 Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CASPR1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). WB: 1:500-1:2000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CASPR1 cntnap1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CASPR1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
