NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
Spectrins are a family of filamentous cytoskeletal proteins that function as essential scaffold proteins that stabilize the plasma membrane and organize intracellular organelles. Spectrins are composed of alpha and beta dimers that associate to form tetramers linked in a head-to-head arrangement. This gene encodes an alpha spectrin that is specifically expressed in nonerythrocytic cells. The encoded protein has been implicated in other cellular functions including DNA repair and cell cycle regulation. Mutations in this gene are the cause of early infantile epileptic encephalopathy-5. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010]
Uniprot Description
SPTAN1: a cytoskeletal protein which seems to be involved in secretion, interacts with calmodulin in a calcium-dependent manner and is thus candidate for the calcium-dependent movement of the cytoskeleton at the membrane. Capable to forming dimers which can further associate to tetramers.

Product Notes
The Human SPTAN1 sptan1 (Catalog #AAA760348) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA760348 ELISA Kit recognizes Human SPTAN1. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Alpha-Fodrin, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
