Related Product Information for SerpinB5 active protein
Maspin (mammary serine protease inhibitor) is a non-inhibitory serpin that is expressed predominantly in normal mammary epithelial cells but at significantly reduced levels or absent in most breast carcinomas. It has the ability to block the growth, invasiveness, and metastatic potential of breast and lung tumors. This anti-tumor activity is achieved, in part, by the ability of Maspin to inhibit angiogenesis and to preferentially promote apoptosis of tumor cells. Recombinant human Maspin is a 42.2 kDa non-glycosylated protein containing 375 amino acid residues.

Uniprot Description

Function: Tumor suppressor. It blocks the growth, invasion, and metastatic properties of mammary tumors. As it does not undergo the S (stressed) to R (relaxed) conformational transition characteristic of active serpins, it exhibits no serine protease inhibitory activity.

Subunit structure: Interacts with IRF6. Ref.7

Subcellular location: Secreted › extracellular space.

Tissue specificity: Normal mammary epithelial cells.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the serpin family. Ov-serpin subfamily.

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Maspin (SerpinB5), Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
