Related Product Information for CRP recombinant protein
r-hCRP is produced into culture medium by DNA recombinant procedure in E. Coli as secretory protein. By expressing kil gene, the outer membrane of E. Coli becomes permeable, allowing r-hCRP to be excreted without cell lysis. r-hCRP has similar biological property in terms of Ca2+-binding ability to the native protein, and is purified by affinity chromatography. N-terminal amino acid sequence of r-hCRP is the same as that of the native human CRP.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the pentaxin family. It is involved in several host defense related functions based on its ability to recognize foreign pathogens and damaged cells of the host and to initiate their elimination by interacting with humoral and cellular effector systems in the blood. Consequently, the level of this protein in plasma increases greatly during acute phase response to tissue injury, infection, or other inflammatory stimuli. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

Function: Displays several functions associated with host defense: it promotes agglutination, bacterial capsular swelling, phagocytosis and complement fixation through its calcium-dependent binding to phosphorylcholine. Can interact with DNA and histones and may scavenge nuclear material released from damaged circulating cells.

Cofactor: Binds 2 calcium ions per subunit.

Subunit structure: Homopentamer. Pentaxin (or pentraxin) have a discoid arrangement of 5 non-covalently bound subunits.

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Tissue specificity: Found in plasma.

Induction: The concentration of CRP in plasma increases greatly during acute phase response to tissue injury, infection or other inflammatory stimuli. It is induced by IL1/interleukin-1 and IL6//interleukin-6.

Miscellaneous: This protein owes its name to its ability precipitate pneumococcal C-polysaccharide in the presence of calcium.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the pentaxin family.Contains 1 pentaxin domain.

Mass spectrometry: Molecular mass is 23028 Da from positions 19 - 224. Determined by MALDI. Ref.15Molecular mass is 22930 Da from positions 19 - 223. Determined by MALDI. Ref.15

Product Notes

The CRP crp (Catalog #AAA682144) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E.coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Human C-Reactive Protein, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
