Related Product Information for BLMH active protein
Bleomycin Hydrolase (BLMH) is a cysteine peptidase of the papain superfamily. It is named for its ability to hydrolyze the antitumor agent bleomycin and inactivate it. It has a papainlike catalytic triad (CysHisAsp) with optimum activity at neutral pH. In mammals it is expressed ubiquitously in all types of tissues and its expression is upregulated in many tumors. It is present in the cytoplasm as homohexameric protein of approximately 300kD. In addition to its aminopeptidase activity, it has homocysteine thiolactonase activity. The normal physiological function of BLMH is not clear. BLMH inactivates bleomycin, a glycopeptide anticancer agent, by deaminating it. BLMH has been suggested to play a role in the generation of MHC class Ipresented peptides. Diminished BLMH activity may contribute to the pathology of Alzheimer's disease (AD) (56). It is inhibited by cysteine protease inhibitors such as Nethylmaleimide, iodoacetamide, parahydroxymercuribenzoate, and E64.

NCBI Description

Bleomycin hydrolase (BMH) is a cytoplasmic cysteine peptidase that is highly conserved through evolution; however, the only known activity of the enzyme is metabolic inactivation of the glycopeptide bleomycin (BLM), an essential component of combination chemotherapy regimens for cancer. The protein contains the signature active site residues of the cysteine protease papain superfamily. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

BLMH: The normal physiological role of BLM hydrolase is unknown, but it catalyzes the inactivation of the antitumor drug BLM (a glycopeptide) by hydrolyzing the carboxamide bond of its B- aminoalaninamide moiety thus protecting normal and malignant cells from BLM toxicity. Belongs to the peptidase C1 family.

Product Notes

The BLMH blmh (Catalog #AAA636820) is an Active Protein and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. SDS-PAGE: 45-50kD, reducing conditions. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the BLMH blmh for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Bleomycin Hydrolase, Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
