NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the prominin family of pentaspan membrane glycoproteins. The encoded protein localizes to basal epithelial cells and may be involved in the organization of plasma membrane microdomains. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009]

Uniprot Description

PROM2: a multi-pass membrane protein of the prominin family that binds cholesterol. Localizes to the apical and basolateral membranes of epithelial cells. Present in saliva within small membrane particles. Expressed in kidney, prostate, trachea, esophagus, salivary gland, thyroid gland, mammary gland adrenal gland, placenta, stomach, spinal cord and liver. In submucosal tumor, expressed in spindle-shaped or stellate stromal cells. Expressed in prostate cancer cell lines. Three alternatively spliced human isoforms have been described.

Protein type: Cell surface; Membrane protein, multi-pass; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2q11.1

Cellular Component: apical plasma membrane; basolateral plasma membrane; cell projection; cell surface; cilium; cytoplasmic vesicle; integral to plasma membrane; lipid raft; microvillus; microvillus membrane

Product Notes

The PROM2 prom2 (Catalog #AAA540106) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Prominin 2 Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Prominin 2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Confocal Microscopy (CM), ELISA (EIA), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoprecipitation (IP), Western Blot (WB). Confocal Microscopy||1:100 Dot Blot: 1:2,000 ELISA: 1:2,000 Immunocytochemistry: 1:100 Immunofluorescence: 1:100 Immunohistochemistry: 1:100 Immunoprecipitation: 1:200 Western Blot: 1:500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PROM2 prom2 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Prominin 2, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
