Biological Significance
IFN-gamma is an acid-labile interferon produced by CD4 and CD8 T lymphocytes as well as activated NK cells. IFN-gamma receptors are present in most immune cells, which respond to IFN-gamma signaling by increasing the surface expression of class I MHC proteins. This promotes the presentation of antigen to T-helper (CD4+) cells. IFN-gamma signaling in antigen-presenting cells and antigen-recognizing B and T lymphocytes regulate the antigen-specific phases of the immune response. Additionally, IFN-gamma stimulates a number of lymphoid cell functions including the anti-microbial and anti-tumor responses of macrophages, NK cells, and neutrophils. Human IFN-gamma is species-specific and is biologically active only in human and primate cells.
Immunogen
IFN Gamma antibody was raised in rabbit using highly pure recombinant murine IFN-gamma as the immunogen.
Preparation and Storage
Store at -20 degree C until reconstitution. Following reconstitution product may be stored at 4 degree C in the short term. For long term storage aliquot and freeze at -20 degree C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the type II interferon family. The protein encoded is a soluble cytokine with antiviral, immunoregulatory and anti-tumor properties and is a potent activator of macrophages. Mutations in this gene are associated with aplastic anemia.[provided by RefSeq, Nov 2009]

Uniprot Description

IFNG: Produced by lymphocytes activated by specific antigens or mitogens. IFN-gamma, in addition to having antiviral activity, has important immunoregulatory functions. It is a potent activator of macrophages, it has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells and it can potentiate the antiviral and antitumor effects of the type I interferons. Homodimer. Released primarily from activated T lymphocytes. Belongs to the type II (or gamma) interferon family.

Product Notes

The IFN gamma ifng (Catalog #AAA534056) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The IFN gamma antibody reacts with Murine IFN gamma and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's IFN gamma can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Inhibition, Western Blot (WB). ELISA: 0.5-2 ug/ml Inhibition: 0.05-0.1 ug/ml WB: 0.1-0.2 ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the IFN gamma ifng for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "IFN gamma, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
