Biological Significance
Synaptopodin is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SYNPO gene. Synaptopodin is an actin-associated protein that may play a role in actin-based cell shape and motility. The name synaptopodin derives from the protein's associations with postsynaptic densities and dendritic spines and with renal podocytes.
Cross-Reactivity
Bovine gerbil, guinea pig, human, mouse, rat
Biohazard Information
This product contains sodium azide as preservative. Although the amount of sodium azide is very small appropriate care must be taken when handling this product.
Immunogen
Synaptopodin antibody was raised in mouse using rat kidney glomeruli as the immunogen.
Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C.

Uniprot Description

SYNPO: an actin-associated protein that may play a role in modulating actin-based shape and motility of dendritic spines and renal podocyte foot processes. Seems to be essential for the formation of spine apparatuses in spines of telencephalic neurons, which is involved in synaptic plasticity.

Protein type: Actin-binding; Cytoskeletal

Cellular Component: tight junction; dendrite; dendritic spine; actin cytoskeleton; postsynaptic membrane; cell projection; cytoskeleton; membrane; axon; cytoplasm; stress fiber; plasma membrane; synapse; cell junction

Molecular Function: actin binding

Biological Process: regulation of stress fiber formation; positive regulation of actin filament bundle formation; cortical cytoskeleton organization and biogenesis

Product Notes

The Synpo synpo (Catalog #AAA530429) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Synaptopodin antibody reacts with Human, Bovine, Rat, Mouse, Guinea pig, Gerbil; negative with rabbit, frog and chicken. Reacts with a subset of exclusively telencephalic synapses, and recognizes differentiated podocytes (glomerular visceral epithelial cells) in vivo and in vitro. Does no and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Synaptopodin can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Formalin/Paraffin, Western Blot (WB). Ready to use for immunohistochemistry. Also suitable for immunofluorescence and immunoblotting. Optimal conditionsto be determined by end user. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Synpo synpo for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Synaptopodin, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
