Biological Significance
The cathepsin family of proteolytic enzymes contains several diverse classes of proteases. The cysteine protease class comprises cathepsins B, L, H, K, S, and O. The aspartyl protease class is composed of cathepsins D and E. Cathepsin G is in the serine protease class. Most cathepsins are lysosomal and each is involved in various cellular events such as peptide biosynthesis and protein degradation. The propeptide region of cathepsin H is highly homologous to other cathepsins. This region is thought to play a role in the processing of cysteine proteases.
Cross-Reactivity
Human, Mouse, Rat
Immunogen
Cathepsin H antibody was raised in Goat using synthetic peptide mapping at the N-terminus of human Cathepsin H as the immunogen.
Preparation and Storage
Store at -20 degree C. For long-term storage, aliquot and freeze at -70 degree C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase important in the overall degradation of lysosomal proteins. It is composed of a dimer of disulfide-linked heavy and light chains, both produced from a single protein precursor. The encoded protein, which belongs to the peptidase C1 protein family, can act both as an aminopeptidase and as an endopeptidase. Increased expression of this gene has been correlated with malignant progression of prostate tumors. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]

Product Notes

The CTSH ctsh (Catalog #AAA5300601) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Cathepsin H can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoprecipitation (IP), Western Blot (WB). IP: 10-20 ug/ml IHC: 10-20 ug/ml WB: 1-4 ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CTSH ctsh for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Cathepsin H, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
