NCBI Description

This intronless gene encodes a member of the SOX (SRY-related HMG-box) family of transcription factors involved in the regulation of embryonic development and in the determination of the cell fate. The encoded protein may act as a transcriptional activator after forming a protein complex with other proteins. In mice, a similar protein regulates the gamma-crystallin genes and is essential for lens development. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

SOX1: Transcriptional activator. May function as a switch in neuronal development. Keeps neural cells undifferentiated by counteracting the activity of proneural proteins and suppresses neuronal differentiation. Mainly expressed in the developing central nervous system.

Protein type: DNA-binding

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 13q34

Cellular Component: nucleus

Molecular Function: DNA binding; protein binding; transcription factor activity

Biological Process: establishment and/or maintenance of chromatin architecture; forebrain neuron development; lens morphogenesis in camera-type eye; neuron migration; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; ventral spinal cord interneuron specification

Product Notes

The SOX1 sox1 (Catalog #AAA425617) is a Blocking Peptide and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The SOX1 Immunizing Peptide reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. The amino acid sequence is listed below: C-AHPHNPQP MHR. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "SOX1, Blocking Peptide" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
